A 19-year-old Islamist has confessed before a London court that he had prepared a bombing in the shopping district on Oxford Street as well as planning to make an attack at a concert by Elton John in the British capital.
Haroon Syed, who lives in west London, pleaded guilty in court on the charge of preparing terrorist acts between April and September 2016.
The man was planning to assault the capital’s main shopping street as well as a concert by pop star Elton John on September 11 in Hyde Park, the 15th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks on New York and Washington.
Haroon Syed was caught after contacting a person online who he believed was a fellow jihadist but was actually an agent of the British security services.
Judge Michael Topolski has suspended his ruling in this case until June 8th in order to complete a psychiatric report of the man, who faces a life sentence for the crimes.
Syed admitted to trying to get a machine gun, handguns, a suicide bomb jacket and a bomb, according to a police statement. They also report he specifically requested the bomb be full of nails to cause maximum damage when exploding in a crowded place like Oxford Street.
Last June, his 23-year-old brother Nadir Syed was sentenced to life imprisonment with a 15-year sentence after being found guilty of planning to behead a man on November 12, 2014, similar to the attack on British soldier Lee Rigby in May 2013 in the south of London.
