A nine year old school girl got the surprise of her life when her letter to Captain Jack Sparrow managed to get the star to pay her school a visit.
The pupil and her school mates made the rest of Britain’s children and parents green with envy after the Pirates of the Caribbean star dropped by their school, fully decked out as the legendary pirate.
Beatrice Delap had earlier written a letter to the star stating “Captain Jack Sparrow, At Meridian Primary School, we are a bunch of budding young pirates and we were having a bit of trouble mutiny-ing against the teachers, and we’d love if you could come and help.”
The young child then signed off as “Beatrice Delap, aged nine, a budding pirate.”
Johnny Depp, who plays the likeable Captain Jack Sparrow, is currently in the midst of filming the fourth installment of this much-loved series and was nearby at the 18th century Old Naval College. Meridian Primary School was informed of his visit only 10 minutes prior to his arrival.
Depp, dressed up as the famous pirate, then swept into the school amidst many cries of excitement and joy. After a brief monologue to the assembled staff and students, Depp presented the letter and called Delap to the front of the crowd where he chatted with her briefly and gave her a hug.
This is not the first time Johnny Depp has made a surprise visit to fans. In 2008, he made a secret visit to a hospital to donate £1 million and thank the staff and administration for saving his daughter’s life. His daughter, 8 year old Lily-Rose, was admitted suffering from kidney failure and subsequently made a successful recovery. During his later visits, he once again came in character as Captain Jack Sparrow to read stories to young patients.
Pirates of the Caribbean 4, which also stars Penelope Cruz, is set for a summer release in 2011.
