‘La La Land’ Leads 2016 Golden Globes Nominations

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association has announced its nominees for the 74th Golden Globe Awards and ‘La La Land’ received the most nominations.

The film scored seven nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor and Actress, for the roles of its stars, Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone.

‘Manchester By The Sea’ and ‘Moonlight’ were nominated for Best Picture, Drama along with ‘Hacksaw Ridge’ , ‘Hell or Highwater’ and ‘Lion’.

Casey Affleck, Joel Edgerton, Andrew Garfield, Viggo Mortensen and Denzel Washington will compete for the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Drama, and Amy Adams, Jessica Chastain, Isabelle Huppert, Ruth Negga and Natalie Portman are in the running for the category of Best Actress in a Drama.

’20th Century Women’ , ‘Florence Foster Jenkins’ , ‘Deadpool’ , ‘La La Land’ and ‘Sing Street’ are all nominated for Best Comedy or Musical.

Among the television series nominees are ‘The Crown’, ‘Stranger Things’, ‘Game of Thrones’, ‘Westworld’ and ‘This Is Us’.

Anthony Anderson, Gael García Bernal, Donald Glover, Nick Nolte and Jeffrey Tambor were nominated for Best Actor Comedy or Musical TV.

In the category of Best Actor in a Miniseries, nominees include Riz Ahmed, Bryan Cranston, Tom Huddleston, John Turturro and Courtney B. Vance.

‘Atlanta’ , ‘Blackis’h , ‘Mozart in the Jungle’ , ‘Transparent’  and ‘Veep’  were nominated for Best Musical or Comedy Series.

Competing for the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Miniseries are Felicity Huffman, Riley Keough, Sarah Paulson, Charlotte Rampling and Kerry Washington.

Rachel Bloom actresses, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Sarah Jessica Parker, Issa Rae, Gina Rodriguez and Tracy Ellis Ross are nominated for Best Musical or comedy actress on television.

In the category of Best Actor in a Series, Miniseries or TV movie, nominees are: Sterling K. Brown, Hugh Laurie, John Lithgow, Christian Slater and John Travolta. Olivia Colma, Lena Headey, Chrissy Metz, Mandy Moore and Thandi Newton were nominated in the same category for best actress.

‘Moana’, ‘My Life as a Zucchini’, ‘Sing’, ‘Strings’, ‘Trolls’, and ‘Zootopia’ are nominated in the category of Best Animated Feature.

It was announced in November that Meryl Streep will receive the Cecil B. DeMille Award for her career in the film industry at the ceremony.

““It’s no surprise that the HFPA has chosen Meryl Streep as the recipient of the 2017 Cecil B. DeMille Award,” HFPA president Lorenzo Soria told Variety, after the announcement. “Meryl’s enthralling body of work across a diverse set of genres has made her a role model over the past 40 years, and she will continue to do so for generations to come.”

“She has always taken roles with strong female leads, creating art by showing vulnerability and portraying truth on the big screen. Simply put, she is a trailblazer, having paved the way for women in television, film and stage. For shattering gender and age barriers, all with finesse and grace, the HFPA is humbled to bestow this honor upon her.”

Jimmy Fallon will present the Golden Globes next January 8 on NBC.
