The 2010 LG U.S. National Texting Championship, to be held in New York, will provide the opportunity for the country’s fastest fingers to show their mettle. The competition will feature $100k worth of prizes to be won.
Participants endured a difficult gauntlet of preliminary and qualifying tournaments to reach the finals to be held in New York this year.
Initial rounds in the tournament consisted of on-site texting at concerts, online competitions, and TV shows that feature text alerts.
However, the difficulty in texting rises considerably in the final competition compared to the preliminaries, with new texting challenges that include blindfolds, tough and complex phrases, as well as long running marathon texting.
Finalists will be expected to bring out their best in order to beat one another and take home the top prize of $50,000. A part of the prize money will also be donated to a charity of the winner’s choice.
The competition is held on the same day as U.S. Department of Transportation’s summit on distracting driving. In accordance with the recent bans set by the driving authorities on texting while driving, the tournament will serve as a platform to reminder the public about these new laws.
