A Romanian man was indicted Thursday for hacking the emails of famous people, including one member of former President Bush’s family.
The Department of Justice has reported that Lehel Lazar, 42, also known by his pseudonym “Guccifer”, was indicted for online fraud, unauthorized access to secure computers, aggravated identity theft, online harassment and obstruction of justice.
Lazar is already serving a sentence of seven years in a Romania prison after being convicted of hacking the email accounts of many Romanian VIPs including the Director of Internal Intelligence.
The indictment in the United States comes a year after an investigation prompted by the discovery that several members of the Bush family had had their email accounts accessed.
The hacker had reportedly published personal photos and private correspondence belonging to former presidents and their families.
The emails included images sent by George W. Bush to his sister, that revealed a number of pictures he had painted, including a self-portrait of him taking a shower.
