An advertisement posted Monday, displaying a half-naked woman strategically holding a slice of pizza in front of herself to promote an upcoming Pizza Week, generated a strong reaction from the public with complaints of sexism.
With the Montreal event getting under way in about a month, Pizza Week organizers had ramped-up social media promotions that included the ad (left) which quickly caused an uproar.
The ad disappeared from the campaign later the same day.
At least one of the pizzerias taking part in the event was similarly offended but believed it was not created with bad intentions and they have decided to remain as a participant.
Pizza Week founders, Billy Alfonso and Fabio Broccoli, apologized and defended themselves by claiming to lapresse.ca that the image was not approved by their team and was never intended to be online.
