Yemen Bomb Would Have Exploded Over Quebec

British police have reported that a bomb discovered on a cargo plane enroute to the United States last month would have probably exploded over Canadian territory if it hadn’t been stopped.

According to the statement, the bomb was configured to go off at 5:30 a.m. EST on Oct. 29 and initially it was believed that would put the plane somewhere over the eastern seaboard of the United States.

However, according to FlightAware -  a company that tracks aircraft flights – UPS Flight 232, that was flying from East Midlands airport in the UK to Philadelphia, was actually about 260 kilometres northwest of Quebec City at 5:30 am.

Public Safety Canada could not confirm the flight would have been over Quebec since it often takes different routes each time.

“Canada monitors national security concerns and is vigilant in protecting against any threats,” said a Public Safety Minister spokesperson. “That is why we work closely together with our international allies in protecting against security threats, including those that may cross our borders.”

The British Home Secretary, Theresa May, stated that the plane would have been “brought down” had the bomb detonated.

In addition to the bomb discovered in the UK, a second bomb was intercepted in Dubai.  Both were hidden inside printer toner cartridges and were being shipped to Chicago, IL addresses.

An al-Qaida Yemini-affiliate group claimed responsibility for the attempted bombings.
