Canadian country artist David James has much to celebrate with the announcement that his latest single “Downtown Kids” has surpassed one million streams, reaching the milestone in just the two short months since its April 27th release.

Currently climbing steadily at radio, the title-track single from his 2017 sophomore EP “Downtown Kids” (MDM Recordings Inc./Universal Music Canada) waxes poetically about the good old days, of the wild abandon of being young and carefree growing up in a small town.

“As an artist, my goal has always been to create music that really resonates with people,” says James. “To see that ‘Downtown Kids’ has become a part of the soundtrack to people’s day has been
so gratifying, and I’m so proud to break the one million stream plateau – for the first time in my career – in only a few months.”

As a thank you to fans, radio and media for all the support, James has released a digital cocktail book titled “Downtown Drinks”, highlighting his love of mixology with some of his favourite drink recipes and creations.

James recently celebrated the success of previous single “Sun Set On It”, which became a Top 15 hit and his highest charting song to date. The track was the third single from the six-song “Downtown Kids” EP, which showcases James’ melodic pop-rock infused country sensibilities and draws lyrical influence from both his personal and professional life.

The release of “Downtown Kids” was marked with a performance at Calgary’s Webber Academy Performing Arts Centre as part of the live music broadcast series Stampede City Sessions. Captured on film, the Stampede City Sessions episode featuring James debuted on PBS (KPBS) last fall to an audience of more than 2 million viewers.

Since bursting onto the Canadian country music scene following his 2014 signing with MDM Recordings Inc., James has celebrated multiple career milestones including the release of his debut EP “Songs About A Girl” and two subsequent CCMA Award nominations, a debut performance at the highly-celebrated Boots and Hearts Music Festival and a Canadian Radio Music Award nomination for “Best New Group or Solo Artist: Country”.

He recently marked his second appearance at Dauphin’s Countryfest and fans can catch his headlining set at Blue Mountain Village’s Country Crossroads on July 21st.
