Cosmetic Dentist Gives Homeless Veterans a Reason to Smile

A cosmetic and periodontal dentist has announced the launch of Smiling Patriot this week – an initiative to provide homeless veterans potentially life-changing dental care at her Beverly Hills, California practice.

To fund the project, Dr. Mahnaz Rashti has pledged to donate 20 percent of all patient payments toward providing completely free dental care for veterans in need.

“We are incredibly excited to officially launch Smiling Patriot,” said Dr. Rashti. “Los Angeles has one of the largest homeless populations in the country, with veterans making up as much as 11 percent of that group. By providing these individuals with the appropriate dental care, our hope is to not only improve their health, but also their confidence when pursuing jobs.”

Dr. Rashti trained for five years, followed by a decade teaching, at the West Los Angeles Veteran Administration Hospital. She specializes in working with phobic patients who might be especially affected by their perceived trauma or the psychological pressure of many dental procedures.

“These men and women have served us proudly, and now it is our turn to serve them,” said Dr. Rashti. “A full, bright, and healthy-looking smile can have a tremendous impact on a person’s quality of life. By helping our local veterans, we are not only benefiting them as individuals, but also our community, both of which I am extremely passionate about.”

The doctor was aware that most veterans have to be considered 100 percent disabled to receive dental coverage, so she founded Smiling Patriot in response, enabling those who don’t qualigy for coverage to receive treatment.

In a release, Dr. Rashti expressed a dedication to providing a complete spectrum of general, cosmetic, and periodontal dental services – including dental implants and full mouth reconstructions – to veterans in need.
